MLC Warrior Football Camps
Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Casey Thiele
Casey Thiele was named Midland Lutheran College’s Head football coach Jan 8, 2007. Coach Thiele will coordinate the Defense and lead the Strength and Conditioning program for Men’s and Women’s Warrior Athletics. Thiele rejoins MLC after serving as Head football coach at Centennial high school for the 2006 season. Centennial qualified for the Nebraska state playoffs in 2006 for only the second time in the last nine seasons.
Thiele brings extensive coaching knowledge and experience to the Warriors football team. In 2004, he rejoined the MLC football program as Offensive coordinator. Under his guidance the offense, finished as the 14th best rushing offense in the nation.
In 2005, Thiele was named the Defensive Coordinator and assistant. head Football coach, MLC finished 2006 with a 6-4 record.
Prior to 2004, Coach Thiele served two seasons as an assistant coach at 6-A Austin High School in Decatur, Ala. In 2002 and 2003, AHS qualified for the 6-A state playoffs in Alabama.
From 1997-2002, he was the Athletic Director and Head Football coach at The Byrnes Schools in Florence, S.C. During his tenure as Head coach, the Byrnes Trojans qualified for the state playoffs in 1999, 2000 and 2001. The Trojans advanced to the State semi-finals in 1999, the State Championship game in 2000 and the quarterfinals in 2001. Byrnes won Region I-AA championships in 2000 and 2001. In 2000, the Byrnes Schools won the schools first ever AA football State Championship. The South Carolina High School Sports Report named Thiele the 2000 AA Coach-of-the-Year.
The Hooper native coached the defensive line and special teams from 1990 to 1996 at MLC. Thiele served on Don Watchorn’s football staff that led MLC to the 1990 Conference Championship. He was an instrumental member on Steve Schneider’s 1994 football staff, guiding the Warriors to a berth in the NAIA National Playoffs and a final top 10 national ranking in the NAIA.
From 1983 to 1985, Thiele was a starting defensive tackle for MLC. He helped lead the Warriors to two-conference championships in 1982 and 1985, while being a three-time All-Conference pick. The Warriors were also ranked in the top 20 in both 1983 (17th) and 1985 (14th).
Thiele graduated from Midland Lutheran College with a degree in Physical Education and from the University of Alabama with a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Coach Thiele is married to Joy Thiele, an Information Technology Consultant employed with Sogeti USA, LLC. The couple has two children, Megan Brown a senior at Presbyterian College, in Clinton, South Carolina and Trent Brown, a Sergeant in the U.S. Army currently stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington.
